THE INFERNAL DEVICES
Cassandra Clare
This has got to be one of the few book series that are on my all time favorite bookshelf. For those who aren't sure what the infernal devices series is, I need you to stop reading like immediately and go get them. The characters make me all mushy inside because even though their actions aren't very realistic, it's beautiful and kept me on a roller coaster of emotions. Summary: Tessa, the main female character grew up believing she and the world was normal. That was until the day she was kidnapped while traveling to see her brother. Her kidnappers were convinced that she is a very valuable and more than human. Day after day they go to great and awful lengths to unlock her power. When she is finally rescued by the Shadow hunters (demon hunters), Tessa discovers that there is a great deal more to the world and herself than she ever knew. Throughout the series, she goes through heartbreak, many near death experiences and gut wrenching lost. But in the end it makes her stronger. ~~

I was in complete and utter awe at the quality of writing and the amazing plot that works so well with the bravest characters that she has created. Cassandra Clare has done it again and I'm starting to wonder if she's perfect. The Infernal Devices is fast-paced with a ton of action, romance, and some scary.
There's a minor love triangle between Tessa, Will, and Jem and coming from someone who is not a fan of love triangles ... I loved this one. It's so elegantly written that it does not come off as annoying, instead it makes me cry so badly. The three of them love each other so deeply and try their best to make sure no one is hurt. Normally in love triangles, one would bash the other, but Will was so willing to give up Tessa for Jem just so Jem would be happy and ... -sigh- it's one of the best.
Despite the love triangle there is very moderate sexual scenes and that is so refreshing to me. I am not a fan of young adult books, pushing sex in the face of our youth. Instead, it's showing it, but mildly doing so. It's not trashy, but romantic and proper.

The setting was Victorian London and Cassandra created that world so beautifully. Even the threats of the clockwork creatures kind of creeped me out, but made me emotional all at once. I know I am rambling right now, but there is literally so much to say about how this book was perfect.
I'm a fan of the mortal instruments, but Clary and Jace are no Tessa and Will .. and Jem. I do love that even though she kept the shadow hunters world in these books she made it absolutely clear that these were different characters and different lives.
I don't have one bad thing to say about this book. The plot was great, the villains were scary, the characters were wonderful and the love was inspiring. I have said it before and I will say it again, authors should really take a page from Cassandra.
